I'm trying to use this RSS Subscription extension with ttrss and it's a total crapshoot. The majority of the time I get the 'could not subscribe to feed' error once the extension redirects to the ttrss url. Yeah they are going to look at the domain name, you don't need to worry about the path under the domain root at all. I prefer rss.example.com but I like third level domains so I don't have a bunch of magic urls hanging off my main domain. To each their own on that one.

If you want a vendor neutral way to login and not manage yet another password you can authenticate with SSL and that is available in tt-rss right now.

You would be better off just downloading the release or trunk directly rather than try to figure out what the fuck some debian packager did in a deb from a distro two versions past yours. I resolved this by upgrading my server distro to latest and switching the installation to pull from git head. Just upgrading the distro did not fix the problem.
