The current eff feed https://www.eff.org/rss/updates.xml fails with error 35, ssl connect error. The thing is eventhough the url has https it does not start ssl/tls.

So my question is, can ttrss try http over tls/ssl and if that fails fallback to normal http?

The EFF is advertising their RSS feed (https://www.eff.org/rss) with an "http", not "https".

I just ran into this same issue today. I tried all of the following:
http://www.eff.org/rss/
https://www.eff.org/rss/
http://www.eff.org/rss/updates.xml
https://www.eff.org/rss/updates.xml

I tried it from the main EFF blog page using the bookmarklet as well. I get the same Error 35 with all of them:

Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong?

Same error for me, and nothing is being populated to the error log in preferences.

This feed
https://www.eff.org/rss/updates.xml
works fine for me on trunk. If you don't have trunk, you should install and try again. If it doesn't work then, maybe there is something nonstandard with your PHP installation. You may see some activity in your browser's console that may help you to isolate the PHP issue.
