[git] Mobile site not working?

Postby shabble » 23 Mar 2013, 19:38

Seems I've broken the mobile version somehow - any clues as to what/how? Normal site still working fine.

IIRC the mobile directory has been removed from trunk a few days ago

Ah.

My phone still gets redirected there though:

Code: Select all

[[email protected] reader]$ grep mobile index.php
        $mobile = new Mobile_Detect();
        if (!$_REQUEST['mobile']) {
                if ($mobile->isTablet() && $pluginhost->get_plugin("digest")) {
                } else if ($mobile->isMobile()) {
                        header('Location: mobile/index.php');
[[email protected] reader]$

I would suggest to redirect to the tablet view if any kind of mobile device is detected and digest plugin is active. This would make sense in the age of phablets. The tablet interface could be made responsive to work with any screen size.

Another option would be an entirely responsive interface for both desktop and touch devices. But I'm afraid this will be almost impossible with dojo/dijit. And we might want to have reduced traffic (no article images) on mobile devices.

I'd like to look into this when I'm back from vacation in 2 weeks.

On the other hand, Matthieu's mobile web app seems pretty nice. You could include that as a git submodule. Maybe this could even be made tablet friendly and replace the digest plugin.

It is true it's nice.
But it displays only 10 articles (per category). I don't see where I can change this parameter.
For now, it's not usable for me.

Digest plugin isn't compatible with my cell phone. I'm going back to version 1.7.4 now.

The mobile version has been removed from the main distribution, but there are a few mobile versions available for you to use.

This is one I've made to be similar to the Google Reader Mobile Version:
http://tt-rss.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1335

And this one is pretty good as well:
http://tt-rss.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1216

You can put either one in the /mobile directory and the redirect should work.

I'll wait till this isn't broken in the tarball. It's too sketchy for my taste.

Its not broken. Fox has purposefully removed the old mobile version, and included instructions to install your own version.

Neither one of the options I listed are sketchy, and both have released source code.

I used the instructions at http://tt-rss.org/redmine/projects/tt-r ... ationNotes

There is no mention of a second tarball for mobile support.

True. There is mobile support through digest module, but that is when you select "Actions -> Switch to digest"

It would be nice that index.php detects a mobile browser, goes directly to digest mode instead redirecting to mobile/index.php, which does not exist

The install instructions for ttrss-mobile also do not work. Since there is no index.php file, the 404 errors remain. The mobile site is still broken.

ttrss-mobile isn't compatible with my cell phone. I can get to it by manually entering a URL, and I can log in, but I can't navigate the rest of the pages without tabbing through dozens of hyperlinks.
