[TT-RSS 1.8] gd warning with memory allocation

Postby Andyt8 » 12 Jun 2013, 23:42

Hello,

I have a problem since the last Update to TT-RSS 1.8. I use Cronjob for the update process, but with 1.8 I get an error message to my email address:
gd warning: one parameter to a memory allocation multiplication is negative or zero, failing operation gracefully

I searched the Forum, but those articles doesn't help me. Please for help...

Hello again,

Has my problem something to do with the missing floIcon files?

Nope, most likely one of your feeds has something which weirds GD out for an icon.

I've been getting that regularly for some time running trunk.

For me last feed before error on updater output was http://www.phdcomics.com/gradfeed.php
Maybe someone who knows more about rss and php than me can figure out the cause of error and if something can be done about it.

Hello, thanks for the answers.

I disabled --quiet and found the following:

>>>
[06:16:04/11730] Base feed: http://blogs.battlefield.com/feed/
[06:16:04/11730] => 2013-06-13 04:16:02, 14 3
gd warning: one parameter to a memory allocation multiplication is negative or zero, failing operation gracefully
[06:16:05/11730] Base feed: http://bueltge.de/feed/
[06:16:05/11730] => 2013-06-13 04:16:04, 53 3
gd warning: one parameter to a memory allocation multiplication is negative or zero, failing operation gracefully
<<<

Both feeds are older and were also included since TT-RSS 1.7.5 - both websites use favicon and I see them in TT-RSS...

@sleeper_service: I found your articles in the forum, but I use the last Version 1.8 - it seems to me, the problem is something different?

I run trunk, so it's something that's been going on for a while, that's happened sometime after the 1.7.9 zip was created. my comment was more of "you're not the only one seeing this error", nothing helpful other than you're not alone with the error.

And now it did not appear for that feed, but appeared later. This kind of problems are the worst....:(

This only time GD is used while updating feeds is when favicon is rechecked and GD is invoked which should be roughly once per 24 hours per feed. Just wrap update.php into /dev/null/ and get over it until someone who has this problem steps up and debugs it instead of posting more useless "me too" shit.

More importantly, all GD functions are prefixed with '@' to disable warnings why GD decides to ignores this is a question better asked to GD developers.

Ok, I thought you meant an older article...

Ok, that means, it affects all feeds. Nice to know, that it isn't a problem with one RSS feed or favicon...

I do my best to give you more information. At the moment there are no more (new) useful messages...

>Ok, that means, it affects all feeds.

It does? Then your GD is somehow broken or for some reason you don't have enough PHP working memory for it.

Edit: You can force favicon recheck like this:

Code: Select all

update ttrss_feeds set favicon_avg_color = null, favicon_last_checked = '1970-01-01'

Which will reset all fancy feed color badges and update all favicons on the next update cycle. Report if all the feeds are broken or only some of them.

I ran a ./update.php --feeds --force-update and our of 238 feeds updated, I saw one gd error:

Code: Select all

[14:44:38/5679] Base feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/AllisoncSewingGallery
[14:44:38/5679]  => 1970-01-01 00:00:00, 215 3
gd warning: one parameter to a memory allocation multiplication is negative or zero, failing operation gracefully
does that help?
