Problem with 1.10 and lock files

Postby Aldursil » 08 Oct 2013, 08:01

I've been getting the below error today every half hour. Previous to this I have had no issues with 1.10.

"error: Can't create lockfile (update.lock). Maybe another update process is already running."

I looked in the /lock directory and only see the files .empty and .htaccess. Feeds are still updated but I have no idea now why I am getting this error.

Below is my cron job
/ramdisk/php/53/bin/php5-cli /home2/xxxx/public_html/ttrss/update.php --feeds --quiet

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this error from repeating?

Check permissions on the lock directory.

Maybe you should figure out the permissions and users on your server before posting further.

>What's weird is that I have not made any changes since I successfully upgraded from 1.9 to 1.10.

Yes, I'm sure the locking mechanism which was not changed for who knows how many versions just stopped working magically because it hates you.

Every new version someone like you comes here and starts complaining that oh no, why is everything suddenly broken, he didn't do nuthin. And then again and again the result is shown as a PEBKAC problem. So far I don't see any reason to suspect otherwise, especially because you gave me bad information already.

the software works, so, go through the setup docs carefully and figure out what's misconfigured in your installation.

Think about what process needs to write into the lock directory.

If you said "the process that's run the crontab", that's correct. On my system, the cron job runs under my shell account. When that process runs, it needs to write into .lock directory.

If you're still having trouble, try changing the crontab entry to "enable logging" for a while:

php <location of ttrss>update.php --feeds

This should cause cron to send you an email every time it runs. You'll get the output of the job and be able to see what any error message might be.

Simple : you have another update process which is already running.
Your feeds take more than 15 minutes to update ; your cron launchs a new update which is aborted ; your first end ; you cron launchs a new update which goes well and so ever, and so ever.

Try to change your cron to update every 30 minutes.
