Can I disable the preview bubble?

Postby clayton256 » 06 Nov 2013, 20:45

Hi,

I'm accessing tt-rss via Safari on a Mac. There is a preview bubble that pops up when I hover over an article line.
Is there a file I can edit to disable this feature? I tried grepping the source tree but I don't know what to look for.

Thanks,
Mark Clayton

Use Chrome instead of Safari. It doesn't do these popups when you mouseover an entry. That's a "feature" of Safari that you can't disable sort of changing the way the code is generated.

For a single user, do you think Fox would go for that?

Wow, so this is a Safari thing?!? Dang! You're right, no popup bubbles on FF Mac or Linux. This is very annoying, but not so annoying to install chrome.

Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

FWIW, I attached a screen capture showing what it looks like.

Thanks,
Mark Clayton

MacOS calls them Menu Hints. Safari implements them, I think, as part of the alt="string" tag in a <a></a>. Chrome does not.

I don't think tt-rss even uses alt="" anywhere except for images, this is sort of strange. Maybe dojo adds it for widgets or w/e.

I looked into this further. The popups aren't in just Safari. They're a MacOS UI called a tooltip. And the Op isn't the first to find them annoying. You have to do some command-line mung to disable them in Safari (for all web sites, not just ttrss):

http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?s ... 9173316942
https://discussions.apple.com/message/18756291#18756291

What HTML is causing this? I thought it was a specific tag in <a></a>. But according to

http://my.safaribooksonline.com/book/pr ... t-tooltips

it's the title="string" metatag in a whatever html tag you use <span></span> <whatever></whatever>.

The terminal command suggested in the previous reply does not turn the tooltip off for me (I normally don't use Safari, so it is not such a big deal for me). According to http://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_global_title.asp the <title> attribute is used to provide tooltip information, so it is not unintended behaviour.

All modern browsers support title= tooltips, you can even see them in tt-rss in several legitimate places.

I just delved into the generated code. There is no title attribute here. There is a <span class="contentPreview"> (no attributes) within an <a> tag (the link to the article). The tooltip shows whatever is in the <span> (the content preview). Thus Safari is mucking things up.
