Chrome compatibility issues ?

Postby Halfwalker » 18 Jul 2014, 17:21

It looks like the top bar seems to have an issue in Chrome under Windows. I've checked it with incognito as well, and it's still messed up. It works fine in Firefox and IE.

Image

The top one is Firefox, the lower two are Chrome. Hitting the down-arrow in Chrome shows the bottom image, where you can see the "Mark as read", "Older than ..." entries, but they're not selectable.

Chrome doesn't seem to render the Slashdot.org list of comments correctly.

Yet IE (!!) does do it right ...

Any idea what's going on ?

Firefox also fails to render the Slashdot.org comment list correctly. Wonder of wonders, IE is the only one doing it right.

Ah ha. I was on 35.x, where the top bar didn't work at all, regular or incognito mode. I just updated to 36.0.1985.125 and now the top bar works in incognito mode. Not in regular mode though - one of the damn extensions must be messing with it.

Still no go with the slashdot.org comments box, regular or incognito mode.

Currently running the Beta on Fedora Linux (37) and not having the issue (nor on previous versions). FWIW, if you're running Linux, hold off on Chrome 38 - the current unstable introduced an issue with the fonts on Linux and they are all smurf'd up.

My guess is your tt-rss is running over https and slashdot tries to load an iframe over http. This is potentially unsafe, so Chrome and Firefox block it. Check the Javascript Console (Ctrl-Shift-J) for errors starting with "[blocked]".

dxbi - Brilliant. That's exactly the issue - it's being proxied by nginx over https/443.

THANK YOU for the helpful comment.

Now to dig into what to do about it ...

Bwaha - I stand corrected. However, it is doing what I *want* ...
