Couldn't download the specified URL: 0

Postby PaintedBox » 12 Sep 2014, 10:01

Hi,

I want to subscribe to this RSS feed. Unfortunately I get following error:

Code: Select all

Couldn't download the specified URL: 0

In other news readers (e.g. the built in reader in Firefox) this feed is working :?

1. Check the stickied myfeedsucks thread.

2. Your firefox is probably not running on some godforsaken shit webhost.

1. I already did that. Your website parsed this feed correctly and displays all entries
2. my Tiny Tiny RSS instance is not running on a "godforsaken shit webhost" but on my dedicated own server

I can subscribe to the feed without any problems. What version of TT-RSS are you using? On what system?

I am using 1.13 on Arch Linux. I subscribed to 104 feeds and this is the first one I cant subscribe :? Is there a debug log in tiny tiny rss or something? I can't see any errors in my server log.

This is the kinda stuff that's better mentioned up front because we can't really read your mind.

Anyway, curl error 0 means connection failed because of some nonspecific reason like a timeout or what have you. As long as it works on myfeedsucks I'm not sure how can we help here. Maybe the host just plain doesn't like your Dedicated Arch Servers' ip address or what have you.

Is there anything log or debug possibilty I can read / do?

Code: Select all

curl https://threema.ch/en/blog/feeds/rss

Works on that machine without any problems.

There's feed debugging but you need to subscribe first to access it so yeah. Besides, it's not like there's anything else to report if connection fails.

You can try disabling curl by adding define('NO_CURL', 1); to config.php.

Thank you!

Code: Select all

define('NO_CURL', 1);

did the trick. Are there any side effects? Is it harmfull to define ('NO_CURL', 1); ?

Ok. One last question: could you explain why the RSS feed can be parsed with disabled curl and not with enabled?

Or, in this case, falling back to an older method. :)

Ok thank you. I only want to understand why this older method seems to work and the new one not.

Because your Dedicated Arch Server has curl which has been somehow broken. Given that it's Arch I'm not entirely surprised.
