A pray for the return of the read/unread button (Android)

Postby Vincent » 25 Nov 2014, 17:03

As many users I miss very much the previous read/unread button on the Android App
And yes I've already read the other post about this question. And the solution proposed:
- if you want to save an article for later, star it;
- when you read it later, unstar it or archive it;
- when you no longer need the article, delete it from the archive.

But this is still not as comfortable than before. Because it's much more convenient to read very quickly on a tablet, mark unread a post that you want to read later on a PC and find it at the same place, follow a link, download a file... And it's done.

So big chief, please consider this very very soft and peaceful pray that your users are sending to you.
Amen

Isn't that literally the purpose of star'ing and un-star'ing articles? Star the ones you like and want to come back to later.

imagine a person who is completely incapable of adaptation

clicking a button once they got used to another button is now an impossible task

instead, whine

It doesn't' have the same purpose:
I star an article that I'll read some days later, next week end, when I've time for it.
And I unread an article when I need to read it on my PC (ie. for a download) one hour later

I'll try explaining my logic on read/unread and starred.

Unread means I haven't taken the time to read something yet. Read means I've finished it, and done anything and everything I plan to do with it. That may mean publishing it, or starring it. To me, starring means "I read this, found it interesting". That's kind of vague, but then again or doesn't come up much. It's kind of like a " like" or a "favorite" to me.

I've never especially thought of starring as meaning "come back to this later", or like a to-do list.

My unread articles are the ones I go through when I open the app.

I guess another way to think of my flow is that I treat " unread " as "needs to be read".

For people that use star to mean come-back-later, what's your work flow like when you come back to it later? Do you have a single view that includes unread and starred articles? Or do you handle those separately?
