Start tag expected, '<' not found

Postby Striker21 » 03 Mar 2016, 19:05

I know yet another boring bug about a bogus feed...

I'm mainly asking to learn, myfeedsucks shows the following:
Error: LibXML error 4 at line 1 (column 1): Start tag expected, '<' not found

What I got confused with and did not expect is that W3.org technically validates it unless I'm wrong and CNET is pretty big so I'd love to get it working, though not sure what the actual bug is in light of it validating (normally when tiny says fuck off they don't validate).

tt-rss relies on libxml to parse feeds which therefore should be valid xml

if you think libxml does something wrong here, you might want to contact libxml developers

this is the kinda thing that you could've figured out yourself if you spent a few minutes thinking before posting tbh

Cheers Fox ;) If anyone else got some ideas let me know... I'll try a few other routes to debug further.

libxml and the feed are not the culprits here. The feed is using "Transfer-Encoding: chunked" and tt-rss (or curl, not sure which one is responsible) does not properly decode it. You can see the data which makes libxml fail by running:

Code: Select all

curl --raw http://www.cnet.com/rss/gaming/
