Updating feeds gets stuck

Postby smashinc » 24 Oct 2016, 11:46

Hi!

I'm using TTRSS in an ovh server since greader announced the shutdown. Everything was working perfect since then exept on the last update (git pull)
Now, the update.php and update_daemon2.php get stuck on update. Directly update.php doesn't finish the work and update_daemon2.php I have to spawn about 50 tasks.

So my workaround is to kill the updater and restart again. I tried resetting all feeds to 1-1-1970 and also changing from settings to update all feeds every 15 minutes, to force the update and the same results.

My environment is:
225 feeds
TTRSS v16.8 (e3dceca)
Postgresql 9.1.14
PHP 5.5.9
Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS

A small piece of process stuck from the log.
active jobs is not always 10, sometimes 1, sometimes 0, sometimes 100... etc..

[10:21:06/2612] [MASTER] active jobs: 10, next spawn at 60 sec.
[10:22:06/2612] [MASTER] active jobs: 10, next spawn at 0 sec.
[10:23:07/2612] [MASTER] active jobs: 10, next spawn at 60 sec.
[10:24:07/2612] [MASTER] active jobs: 10, next spawn at 0 sec.
[10:25:08/2612] [MASTER] active jobs: 10, next spawn at 60 sec.
[10:26:08/2612] [MASTER] active jobs: 10, next spawn at 0 sec.
[10:27:09/2612] [MASTER] active jobs: 10, next spawn at 60 sec.
[10:28:09/2612] [MASTER] active jobs: 10, next spawn at 0 sec.
[10:29:10/2612] [MASTER] active jobs: 10, next spawn at 60 sec.
[10:30:10/2612] [MASTER] active jobs: 10, next spawn at 0 sec.

if you think your problem is related to one of the updates you can try going back through changesets until you see improvement

other than that without logs it's impossible to say why and where update task hangs

Which logs do you need? I can compile them in a file. Or how can I run the update.php or update_daemon2.php in debug mode or more verbose?

define DAEMON_EXTENDED_DEBUG in config.php then run update.php --feeds (don't use multiprocess daemon because the logs would be more confusing)

no need to post the entire log, just the stuff right before it gets stuck

also try to figure out if its random feeds or one specific feed

e: also, check tt-rss built-in error log in prefs.php for anything of interest

Every time I've seen this, it's because of vice.com. I set it to stop updating and within a few minutes everything is working. After a week or so, when the offending article is no longer in their feed, I turn it back on. Actually, come to think of it, I may not have turned it on since the last time.

Yeah, it's still disabled. No big loss.

can you post the feed url? e: ah it doesn't happen all the time. well, idk.

e2: i've noticed that tt-rss does not set network timeout when not using CURL, this should now work properly.

Nothing interesting in tt-rss built-in error log. Something related to a Warning explained in other topic.

The debug doesn't show any problems in the log, just sometimes stop working. What I see is randomly, I don't have clear if there is any especific feed or not. I'm launching and stopping to try to figure where it gets stuck but I'm unable.

Anyways, now the process is launched and isn't updating and in the UI I see "Update daemon is not updating feeds".

I tried to disable all feeds (stop updating) and start one by one, and the same. Stuck sometimes.

What you say about the non-curl is fixed in include/functions.php | 4 ++++ ?

I'll keep trying and figuring what is happening.

if stuff just hangs on random debug log lines i think it's on either php or some other part of your server not working properly

you can install virtualbox on your own PC, copy your tt-rss instance with feeds and stuff and try running it there for a bit
