Got error "Sanity check: invalid RPC reply"

Postby jd2066 » 01 Feb 2010, 02:55

Hi,
I just did a new install of Tiny Tiny RSS on a new computer and got the error "Sanity check: invalid RPC reply" when loading it.
Based on another topic, I went to backend.php?op=rpc&subop=sanityCheck and got the following:

Code: Select all

<rpc-reply><error error-code="0"/><init-params></init-params><runtime-info>

If the XML is valid, then it is your browser. See the stickied headlines_count_obj thread, steps to debug this problem are essentially the same.

I followed the steps in that page by going to backend.php?op=viewfeed&feed=-3 and I got the following back:

Code: Select all

<reply><headlines id="-3" is_cat="">

Fresh articles

Select:
            All,
            Unread,
            Invert,
            None
  Actions...  <img width='11' height'7'
            src="images/down_arrow.png">

Selection toggle:

  Unread

  Starred

  Published

Selection:

  Mark as read

  Archive

Assign label:

           Create label...

No articles found to display.

</headlines><headlines-count value="0"/><vgroup-last-feed value=""/><headlines-unread value="0"/><disable-cache value="0"/><articles></articles><counters><counter type="global" id='global-unread'
         counter=''/><counter type="global" id='subscribed-feeds'
         counter='2'/><counter type="label" id="0" counter="0" /><counter type="label" id="-1" counter="0" /><counter type="label" id="-2" counter="0" /><counter type="label" id="-3" counter="0" /><counter type="label" id="-4" counter="0" /></counters><runtime-info>

Also, this is what Firefox displays for that:

Code: Select all

XML Parsing Error: no element found

Line Number 23, Column 295:         counter='2'/><counter type="label" id="0" counter="0" /><counter type="label" id="-1" counter="0" /><counter type="label" id="-2" counter="0" /><counter type="label" id="-3" counter="0" /><counter type="label" id="-4" counter="0" /></counters><runtime-info>

So it just points to the end of the file? Maybe you broke config.php (or some other .php file you edited) by adding some unnecessary whitespace after or before the php tags?

The only file I've edited is config.php and there doesn't appear to be any extra spaces that could break things in the file.
I just tested this by making a new config.php file after coping it from config.php-dist file and entering the database details but the problem remains.

Well some time later, but I got the same error.
It is in the new Simplepie settings in v 1.4.3. When I set 'DEFAULT_UPDATE_METHOD' to 1, i.e. Simplepie.
When I reverted to Magpie, ttrss ran correctly.

Hope it helps,

Bubbel

Just loaded tt-rss with DEFAULT_UPDATE_METHOD=1 and didn't see anything different, e.g. it works the same for me. :(

I get exactly the same thing. Firefox 3.6.8. It works fine with DEFAULT_UPDATE_METHOD set to 0 but set it to 1 and I get the same RPC error mentioned originally. I've even copied the config.php-dist file to config.php and gone through it all again to make sure I don't have any strange config or whitespace and it made no difference.

Got the same error here from 1.4.2 to 1.4.3
A precision anyway : with 1.4.3, no problem with 'DEFAULT_UPDATE_METHOD' set to 1 if SINGLE_USER_MODE is set to true. If multi-user is enabled -> "Sanity check: invalid RPC reply"

Okay, yeah, it was a bit of me being a bit too hasty with vim keyword completion.

Fixed in trunk. Thanks to everyone for reporting it!
