TT-RR with open_basedir enabled?

Postby MaTachi » 26 Jun 2011, 11:20

Hi!

Is there no way to use Tiny Tiny RSS with open_basedir enabled on the hosting service?

You can try it (disable the check in sanity_check.php), but some parts of the functionality might fail. I don't remember what exactly was the problem, though.

I've wondered the same thing already at https://github.com/gothfox/Tiny-Tiny-RSS/commit/7bb8d39a06e232d85b8a469ecb6e41963f56bb77#commitcomment-276990 and as you can also read there in the IRC log at http://irc.volgo-balt.ru/logs/%23tt-rss.log.20101221.gz you can read the reason: CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION doesn't work which basically means that redirects of the URL (e.g. of your feeds) aren't handled. I think if you disable the 'USE_CURL' configuration option it shouldn't cause any problems as then curl isn't used, but I'm not totally sure as I haven't seen the problems before, too.

USE_CURL is not there anymore though, tt-rss prefers CURL by default if it is available. I guess I can just disable CURL when open_basedir is detected and remove the sanity check altogether unless there's something else broken by this (not sure on this one).

I still have doubts about this. Please report mysterious bugs when running under open_basedir.

Hi,

I installed a TT-RSS instance yesterday, and it took me quite a while to figure out why I just got "Couldn't download the specified URL." when trying to subscribe to any feed. There was also nothing in any logs. I then remembered having had to disable open_basedir for TT-RSS earlier, and once I did that it worked as expected.

How should we proceed? Can I help by providing more information about my environment?

Thanks,
Patrick.

Looks like it works for some people but not everyone. I guess I'll have to reinstate the check.
