And the inept writer claims it took "a couple hours" to install. Honestly, if you can't install tt-rss in less than 15 minutes you probably just need to use Feedly or something.

If by really good you mean really bad. :D Anyone reading that article and making a decision based on it will never even try it. The writer claims "a couple of hours" to install it? What did they print all the source out on paper and have to retype it in by hand?

It's an great article though, lots of pics and stuff.

Edit: lol comments

You lost me at "I had my instance set up and web-accessible within a few hours, and I spent a few more tweaking all of the settings and options just the way I wanted them."

Why go through all that when I can just port my feeds over to another web-based service in a few minutes if my current one goes belly-up? A few hours, then a few MORE hours? Editing SQL code? For an RSS reader? That sounds like more work than it could possibly be worth.

Some serious life hacking skills there.

The one thing you have to realize with LifeHacker, they tend to bloat their times. While it doesnt take a "couple hours" to do the install, I have been tweaking and playing with themes and plugins since I installed tt-rss. With that included, man I have spent a lot more than a "couple hours" getting my to where I like it. And I enjoy the customization phase of any of these kinds of installs.

LifeHacker has never been "for the noobs". Some level of knowledge and a handy-man view of the world is needed for most of the projects they describe. it is, btw, LifeHacker, not NoobCoddler.

That exact article, however, is what got me started with tt-rss and finally getting moved off Google Reader.

same here - installed ttrss on my server and haven't looked back. If GR came back I wouldn't use it.

I was so impressed I sent a donation, which everyone should do, however small. It's well worth it.
