Filter strategies

Postby cy8aer » 31 Mar 2013, 15:02

Because the tt-rss filters are very powerful I use them for many different things, like hide things I do not want to see, flip important things to the top...

But when I look at my filter definitions they are more or less chaotic. How do you use the filters? Do you have some special strategies? What makes you see the important things?

This might be idiotic, but I start my filters with something like "01-LABEL-A|" and then go on with the actual keywords. That way I can keep some kind of order.

I thought about adding drag and drop reordering and shit to filters but it's kinda a lot of work so it's canned for the time being. :(

fox, before sorting, I would ask you to add ellipsizing. My filters are looooong and they get on top of the label. Like this:

It would look better if after 150 characters or so, it trimmed the rest and printed "..."

That is actually already fixed. Filters are also sorted by caption for the time being.

Edit: I've also added ellipsizing for old-style names if caption is not set.

The shit! Are those captions implemented in 1.7.6? Drag and drop and ellipsize not needed anymore! Thanks.

What do you mean not needed, I just finished doing it.

It sorts by order_id and title. Also I tweaked filter overview display to be less retarded.

Sorry. But with custom captions ordered alphabetically I don't really think anyone should need anything else. I'm not on trunk and haven't seen the captions options before.

I've updated the filter manual for 1.7.6. Comments welcome.

Are sequentially matched filter Score Modification actions also applied additively, or does the final Score Modification action override the previous?

I've attached a screenshot to illustrate my question.

Looks like the answer is in the doc!

6. Modify score - modifies article overall score based on the parameter, a signed integer number. Final article score is calculated after all filters had been applied and is a sum of all matched scoring actions. I.e. if 3 actions matched the article: -5, +5, +10 - the overall score will be 10.

I thought so, too -- but when I enter "+10" in the field, the "+" is stripped out when I save. I'll keep observing my results; it's time-consuming since I have to rely on new stories matching my rules to show up :)
