hide specific labels from fresharticles or startlabel choose

Postby extrem101 » 16 May 2013, 12:05

Hi,

it would be great if you could hide specific labels from the fresh articles feed or just give the option to load another label/blank page after a fresh login.

background: when you have some explicit/NSFW stuff in your feeds and you login on a public place or at work their is a great possibility that their is something showing up you don't wanna show to others.

regards

Haha, +1

I don't know how many times I've scrambled in panic searching for a another browser tab or feed after refreshing tt-rss after a NSFW post appears in fresh articles. I always lose the race. Then my wife sighs.

I don't think labels is the answer though. Maybe another option in edit feed similar to 'Hide from Popular feeds'. Say "Hide from Fresh Articles'

Well, maybe don't read fresh feed, read labels instead? Fresh feed contains all fresh articles, I don't really see any need to add further complexity there.

Serious question: Why don't you just throw your NSFW feeds to another user, and log in with it whenever you borrowed a feeling?

I think his point was tt-rss loads 'fresh articles' feed by default on startup and there's no way to prevent _certain_ feeds from displaying their debaucherous content there. Either way I'm good, truth be told my conversation with the wife goes like this:

Wife: I really don't care, why would you think I care? :?
Me: But, but, I was only.. I wasn't... :o
Wife: Honestly, I don't care.....

I think I hate fab complexity as much as fox hates option complexity.

Well, it's possible to set fresh interval to 0 which would effectively disable the feed altogether.

Personally I feel that grown man hiding porn in a byzantine labyrinth of folders like a 12 year old boy would do from his mom is the problem best solved by growing the fuck up, not adding complexity to the news reader application. Either that or add a separate account, that at least has some merit re: proper privacy.

You know I actually read that line twice before posting to make sure I was secure in my childish comedic wit, FML.

I've wanted similar functionality, in a toggleable manner, because I have a number of feeds for formula 1 racing, and have to dance around trying not to see race spoilers until I've had time to see the race. normally, I like having the articles come in mixed with the rest of the feeds, but not on race day.

so, it does have applications beyond porn. ;)

Cool story bro, but I don't want to keep you, I'll let you get back the 'formula 1 racing' and the inevitable 'race spoilers'.

oh, I'll freely admit to the porn, but that's all in a different folder, and filtered through the 'nsfw' plugin ;)

thanks, thats a good solution i didn't though about. I didn't use the fresh articles feed anyway.

@general interesting that every conversation about such a topic fast goes out of hand
this has nothing to do with being grown up or hiding something like a kid. IMHO it's totally reasonable that I don't want to open the reader at work with the risk of showing something even slightly controversial.
It doesn't have to be hardcore porn ... :)

I don't argue that there are no use cases for this, it's just that there are other solutions available so I don't feel that adding complexity is justified.

this was really just in general spoken :)

you do great work and have to know what you see needed or not. keep it going :)

and with the 0 for fresh articles my problem is completely solved.
