Ad Blocker

This would probably make a great plugin.
I have tried and failed, maybe someone else could get it to work.
Recently more and more feeds have began to show ads. They all seem to come from the same place:
http://da.feedsportal.com
example feed:
Be sure to disable adblock and you should see the ads.
http://feeds.gawker.com/gawker/full
Even Slashdot is showing ads in the feed now.
I see that the images are being cached. Which tells me that some sort of blocking needs to take place on the feed during the caching process.
Anybody interested in helping figure this out?

These are the ads that Im seeing over and over...

Your browser presumably has an adblock extension which you can use to easily block feedsportal.

I have adblock blocking feedsportal.
The issue is that the images are being served up from the cache.

Code: Select all

<a href="http://da.feedsportal.com/r/184842387137/u/94/f/647161/c/34974/s/354a3556/sc/1/rc/1/rc.htm" target="_blank"><img src="http://reader.idoxlr8.com//image.php?hash=74f68b2792054c737ccad44e20a0d1f87de9abe5" border="0"></a>

I for one am sorry for your desire to hoard ad images on your server.

Pretty sure Fox bundles a plugin that filters feeds portal stuff...

Oops. I completely forgot about it.

e: I'm not sure if it will work with cached images though, I never tried.

I must be missing something.
The images folder inside the cache folder on my server is very large.
It seems that all images are cached.
It's not my desire to cache images as I have plenty of bandwidth.
It is my desire to not cache or show images from feedsportal.
If there is a plugin with this functionality, please point me to it and I will give it a try.

Thanks

@idoxlr8: What about using /etc/hosts to point feedsportal.com to 127.0.0.1?

um, why are you telling ttrss to cache images then?

that is a setting in each feeds config.

select feed_url,cache_images from ttrss_feeds where cache_images='t';

update ttrss_feeds set cache_images='f';

awsome. I knew it had to be something simple.
Thanks. I just noticed that some feeds are marked to cache images.
Headed to phpmyadmin...
btw, the af_fsckportal plugin did seem to work.
Thanks to everybody for all your help.
