[Android] Distracting slide-in of new articles

Postby windy » 10 Apr 2016, 23:27

When I am scrolling through a feed, just scanning the headlines for interesting articles, the animation of loading new articles at the bottom is quite of annoying. It seems like when an article is loaded "on demand", it is added with a "slide-in" animation. Sometimes there is even a red loading bar which disappears very quickly.

This behavior is annoying since it redirects my attention to the bottom of the screen (animations and a red bar). What I would like to see is a plain list which just contains the items without any fancy animation.

So my suggestion is to provide an option to disable the animation. Another fix would be to just pre-load more articles, since once an article is loaded it is no longer animated.

if you decided to read the forum a bit before posting you'd know that my policy is not adding options for stupid shit like this

endure or use something else

No, but I already realized your negative attitude when communicating with your users.

But let me give that answer back to you. If you had read my posting, you would know that there is a way without adding an option, just by increasing the number of pre-fetched articles. Your app does not cache aggressively enough on numerous occasions.

endure or use something else

Unfortunately the only usable alternative is not developed any longer. So I am trying to make yours better by offering suggestions. I do not understand why you react so harsh to this.

There is no need to get personal. I want to see you reading a text in a browser with and without animated ads placed inside of it. Guess in which alternative you will be faster. That is what ad blockers were made for.

that's really not how listview animations work

boo hoo another google or w/e ~refugee~ joins the forums

when will you people realize nobody actually cares and go away already

mostly because your suggestions and reasoning behind them is really terrible and dumb which is why i'm not going to listen to (and, god forbid, implement) any of it

Then just do not use them. Look at a popular application like the Facebook app which displays items in a similar way. There is no animation at all and the feed is pre-fetched, allowing fast reading.

I do not know what you are talking about. I am using many Google services, including the Play store.

You put "I give a shit about your opinion and do not need any help" in too much words here.

This is the very first time I actually witness anybody referring to Facebook's android app in terms of good development.
Seriously their Facebook app is one of the worst pieces of code ever written for Android.

we are talking about java so I always keep my expectations low.
The last time I used Facebook for android it didn't feel like a native app for android, probably because they weren't trying to even remotely stick to material design guidelines.

You have to differentiate between "good development" and "good user experience".

This comment was as expected as it is useless with regard to the topic.

However, you made it quite clear that users who are willing to spend time and effort making your app better are not welcome here. So pat yourself on the back for insulting a user who had nothing but good intentions. Good luck with your app, I am not going to waste my precious time in such an environment.

That's what I am doing and Facebook keeps failing both.

Do you get the point of ttrss being open source?
You are free to fork the ttrss for android anytime and implement any feature you desire to have.
