monitor web sites

Postby awikatchikaen » 24 Feb 2009, 18:32

Hello,

I love this TT-rss, it's just wonderful and much powerful than I have see and test.
For a year with this, I have met some web sites that I want to 'follow' but which doesn't provide RSS feeds. Or feeds are too global, especially the wiki's sites. For example MPD have news on first page but feeds contains all wiki's modification !! don't want all this infoumations !!

So, why not include in tt-rss an option to monitor somes pages ? a comparison of the checksum might be enough, and if the page has changed just had a message to prevent user to go to see the site.

I have see that http://page2rss.com/ does a things like that but integrated in my tt-rss will be better :D

I recommend you use page2rss and also learn about yahoo pipes for filtering.

Let ttrss do one thing well: monitor rss feeds.

I don't really support the "everything and kitchen sink" methodology of software development - tt-rss won't parse sites, make coffee, wash your dishes or whatever. It's an rss reader and let's keep it that way.

Fox is referring to a common ideology in the open source world. Do one thing, right and make it easy to use with other things.

RSS is the interface into tt-rss, and it's a pretty good boundary line for what is and isn't the business of tt-rss.

If you don't want to use yahoo pipes, why not consider deri pipes: http://pipes.deri.org/
I found it from the http://autonomo.us/wiki/Wish_list - that's also how I found tt-rss! If you really like being in control of your data, I think you'll find that I've just made your day. AGPL software is all about that.

If you have any other software web services you wish you could install on your server, go ahead and add an entry there. You might see it gets answered!

Good luck!
