Sync Thunderbird and TT-RSS

Postby lore27 » 30 Aug 2013, 01:56

I love TT-RSS and the fact i can use it on Android, however I would like to go on using Thunderbird (...)

Is there a way to do a 2 way sync betweenThunderbird and TT-RSS like the android client does? I found some older post dated 2009 where there was mentioned to use a link like mysite/backend.php?op=rss&id=-4&is_cat I tried but Thunderbird says link not valid.

1) Try posting in the correct section of this forum. Better yet post on Thunderbird's forum.
2) I also am really-really surprised no one has responded to ridicule your ignorant request.

Because I'm nice, your answer:

sleeper_service, fox. Well I am not an IT/programmer perhaps I am not aware off all improvements available, glad there are guys like you that know something on the subject, always happy if I can learn anything new. :-)

The reason I am using a desktop email client is the availability of tools such as filters, email alerts works regardless if I have a browser open, being able to move emails across several email accounts. Most relevant TB basically never crashes and does his job in the background, while Firefox, if I cam I'm very happy to close it.

...With the years I marked several RSS articles. I would like to read the RSS feeds from android, however can not afford to lose the starred articles in TB.
synchronizing Android and TB via TT-RSS looked to me reasonable like sync. any IMAP email account across devices. Very happy to hear alternate suggestions!

Saliency thanks for the link to the API, as I did not realize my request was so strange I hoped there was already something available, will try to understand what exactly I can do with the API code.

No it's not. Mail waits in the server until you fetch it. RSS gets updated and old items disappear. RSS needs to work continuously, mail doesn't.

Then there is the read anywhere over the internet thing. Vastly overrated, specially now that people are more likely to read their personal mail in the office using their phone rather than using the office computer.

Of course I'm Thunderbird's bitch talking here...

lore72, as far as I know, the answer to all your questions is no you can't. Conventional OPML import/export for feeds, and that's all between TB and TT-RSS. I don't think TB supports any kind of RSS sync at all.

Obsolete paradigms ITT.

"Why yes I download my mail through ~pop3~ to my ~pc~"

Jeez.

e: >Mail waits in the server until you fetch it.

That's not the point. Also, lol @ fetching mail in general.

e2: I guess I should stop derailing...

One word: IMAP. I can use mail program of my own choice and have access to same messages on multiple programs and devices. And all message states are also on all programs. Only way to achieve this for RSS is by using some sort of always on rss aggregator (like TT-RSS).

Desktop MUA is an obsolete curiosity regardless of it using IMAP or not. Good web based client will provide the exact same functionality while being much easier to access. Convergence, people. We're not in 1990 anymore.

Same with IM or chat or calendar (lol outlook) or w/e other lightweight applications.

e: well fuck me I'm still derailing

I don't know. I have yet to see good web paged mail client (that I personally would consider good - your opinion can be different and probably is). And with standalone program I can use same user interface to access multiple accounts. But for each his own. It's nice, that web based interfaces exist as a possibility.
But it's now totally offtopic:)
