FYI, there is an RSS feed for the Github repo that lets you monitor commits. Github also lets you easily browse through the changes at whatever level of detail you like.
Also, there's only been around 1 commit per day on average over the past few weeks, so it's not even a huge time sink to look them over if you actually feel the need to scrutinize them for some reason.
Periodic releases are over
Re: Periodic releases are over
Additionally, for those missing tarballs, there is a big button on a github page that offers anyone to "Download the contents of gothfox/Tiny-Tiny-RSS as a zip file". Press it and make your own tarball whenever you feel like it.

They don't even have to make the tarball them self, Github does the job for them https://github.com/gothfox/Tiny-Tiny-RSS/archive/master.tar.gz
Re: Periodic releases are over
Hello,
I've used TT-RSS for a while now and at first I thought: "Uhhh - no automatic update function any more!"
I haven't used git before and am no server guru.
But a short search ("install git") and on Debian it's nothing more than:
# install git-core
And then (in my case "ttrss" ist the folder for installation):
- rename old ttrss folder to have a backup
- create new and empty ttrss folder
- clone git as described:
# git clone https://github.com/gothfox/Tiny-Tiny-RSS.git /var/www/ttrss
- copy old config.php in the new and now filled folder "ttrss"
- copy contents of feed-icons from backup folder to new ttrss folder
- change rights:
# chown -cR www-data:www-data /var/www/ttrss
- start TT-RSS in Browser
- ok, a new config variable is neccessary - get it from config.php-dist
- start TT-RSS in Browser
- ok, Database update neccessary - just one click ...
-> TT-RSS works as expected!
THAT'S ALL!
And for updates you only have to:
# cd /var/www/ttrss && git pull origin master
(and possibly: # chown -cR www-data:www-data /var/www/ttrss)
For update notifications (changes in master) get RSS-Feed:
https://github.com/gothfox/Tiny-Tiny-RS ... aster.atom
It's really no voodoo and at my point of view (as a git noob) it's really, really easy.
Thanks for all and keep up the good work.
Greets,
Martin

Re: Periodic releases are over
I just want to say that I am a complete n00b who started learning cloud server administration last year for the sole purpose of using TT-RSS and found this process to be incredibly easy. I was able to install git and upgrade to the latest version without any major issues, thanks to the advice in this thread. Cheers to all.

What about for users like me that run ttrss on a Windows server?

See previous posts on downloading directly from github or install git on said server. go be a big person, put your pants on OVER your underwear, and figure it out.
Re: Periodic releases are over
lmao, and while fox may rightly laugh at us poor folk who aren't smart enough to run ttrss on a real OS, the last laugh may be ours because ttrss runs just wonderfully on windooze, both server and workstation versions. In fact I'm now running my instance on a windows 8 box and haven't had a single problem.
Re: Periodic releases are over
Sweet, no issues with this.
Thanks for the ongoign development, fawn lick grovel suck.

Re: Periodic releases are over
Could you perhaps adapt the code for the updater to accept a tar.gz as a file upload? That way a person could grab any tar.gz snapshot they wanted from github and update without having to leave the browser, and you still would not need to bother with 'releases'.

Re: Periodic releases are over
yes this sounds like an excellent idea allowing some retard to upload arbitrary shit and replace working instance with it
this definitely is not going to end with tears and raging forumposts

And here I thought you assume the users of your software know what they are doing. And raging forum posts are a good thing right? But I guess the security implications would be too severe.
