Yes, I like that as well, stuff to be left unread while scrolling. But I would like to have the option to mass-select items (all above or all below) as read. So nothing is done automatically, a button somewhere on the current post (or a menu if you keep tapping a specific post?) does what I have described.

This application is really nice, thanks a lot, Tiberius, for your work! I would like to make two feature suggestions:

Thanks in advance!

It's a page sheet, in portrait mode the window will be full screen (portrait mode will be available in the next release). On iPhone it's full screen too. So it's not the same as in the App Store and the behavior is correct.

I agree. That's why there is a Mark All Read button instead of marking read when scrolling (which will mark articles as read by mistake even if you don't want too)

ok, let me show you what I mean. I am using iPad Air and I get the following two screens:

ImageImage

In the first one, if I tap to the area outside of the white box (the area of the selected application in App Store), the box will close. In second one, if I tap to the area outside of the white box (the area of the post in your application), nothing happens. Could we have a functionality similar to the one in App Store, please?

Nevertheless, sometimes you don't have the time to process all of the posts, so you want to eliminate some of them, let's say until the ones you have read their titles. Is it too difficult to add such a button? To be honest, I have used this functionality in both the web application and the Android app, so I have grown too dependent to get rid of it on my new iDevice.

Hi,

i really like your app, its quality is on par with the official Android client.

I just have one small issue with the navigational consistency within the app:
Back = left
1.png
Feed overview
1.png (24.63 KiB) Viewed 6698 times

Back = left
2.png
Article overview
2.png (10.89 KiB) Viewed 6698 times

Back = right (?)
3.png
Article view
3.png (48.82 KiB) Viewed 6698 times

So when browsing categories and articles, with the back button always on the left side, and finally reading an article, most of the time when wanting to go back i hit the "source" button instead, since it is placed, where usually the back option sits.

It would be really great if these two buttons could be exchanged, maybe not generally but as an option.

Other than that, great work and thanks :)

Greetings

Thank you for making this app. It's fast in every respect, starring and walking between articles is easy, articles are rendered well and it supports https with self-signed certificate. Now it has deservedly replaced Reeder and other clients I have used on the iPhone.

Having used it for a couple of days I have the following suggestions for your road to perfection :D
  • Swap the Close and Source buttons in article view (like the previous poster suggested)
  • List all articles of a category if the user taps the number of unread messages as opposed to the category name (Feeder does this and it's very convenient some times)
Thanks again for a great app!

In fact, the article view is not "pushed" like the Subscriptions -> Feeds -> Articles sequence. The article detail view is a "modal view". If you look at the iPad version, you'll see that it's a different window. So the action is not Back, but Close. This action on the right because, on iPad, it's near the "Mark All Read" action. So when you read some articles, you just close the detail view and mark read all remaining article on the same side of the screen. But OK, I'll add an option to switch Source/Close buttons ;)

And let me show you what I mean ;)

iPhone, landsccape :

iPhone, portrait

iPad; landscape

So the "tap outside the window" will only be available in one case of 4 (iPad landscape).
(And the App Store window doesn't have a Close button)

Thanks for trying :wink:
I'll rephrase it: If the user taps the article count (near the right edge) on a category on the Subscriptions list, then go directly to the All articles list for that category, skipping the Feeds list. Correspondingly, skip the Feeds list when the user taps Back on that All articles list too, going directly back to the Subscriptions list.

This is useful for speeding up navigation if e.g. I see there are very few unread articles in the category.

Ok, it's clear now :)

Perhaps an option to automatically show all articles can be a solution ? Or do you prefer to tap on right or left (which should not be so intuitive) as you suggest ?

(BTW, the option to swap Close and Source is done ;) )

Personally I'd like to be able to choose with my finger every time, not by a global option. Tapping on the number of unread articles vs tapping on the category name may not be immediately intuitive, but I think of it like this: I tap the number 7 to see all those 7 unread articles. I tap the category name to see what's in the category.

Indeed, that's the case. Are you willing to implement such a thing? (Off-topic: How do you have your application on portrait mode? On my iPad Air it's always on landscape regardless of how I hold my iPad).

Regarding my other suggestion, mark above as read, what are your thoughts? Would it be possible to make it? As I said, some of my feeds have too many posts to read them at once, so this feature would be very convenient to me.

Merry Christmas!

Hi everybody,

I've not enough time to work on my app, so I release a new version with just a bug fix and a new option to swap Close / Source buttons.

I'll add new options later, such as swipe article list to mark/publish an article or shortcut to show directly unread articles as suggested. Version 1.2.1 is still for iOS 6.1 min, but I think that future release will be iOS 7 min.

Hi everybody,

I've just submitted tiny Reader RSS 1.3.0 for iOS with some new features :

- A new icon (and launch screen)
- Unread badge on app as an option (the app need to stay in background to be updated)
- Swipe feeds to reveal action buttons : read / published / starred (swipe left or right according to settings)
- You can now add an article to Safari reading list
