Why you should be ahhpy you moved to tt-rss

It shows how actually ignorant in technology matters a lot of technology bloggers are. Instead of recommending software and services with a solid history, that had proved to deserve a minimum trust, they went crazy about a newcomer (the old reader had been online for a few months only) whose main merit was that it looked enough like GR.

Everytime I have written something about feed readers, I pointed that tt-rss has been continuously developed since forever (in internet-time ). That and being open source, make for great reliability.

Expecting any sort of journalism from gizmodo/verge/etc gadget humping mongoloids is just lol though. Reposting whatever the ~twittersphere~ or w/e seems to be bubbling about is about as high as their reporting goes.

Personally I think main problem with the old reader guys is that they never evolved the ability to tell people to fuck off until it was much too late. Add terrible time management skills on top of that and you get this hilarious clusterfuck.

e: It's kinda funny how they chose I think the literally worst way to handle their situation though wrt pissing people off for no reason whatsoever.

The Old Reader refugee checking in. I actually set up TTRSS before signing up for TOR but was feeling too lazy to get it tweaked enough for me to want to use. Now I'm feeling pretty dumb, since the tweaking turned out to be pretty quick and easy.

Bummer about The Old Reader. Sucks if you're a new user, but I do feel for the developers too.

I played with a lot of readers in the run up to Google Reader pulling the plug. My requirements were that it was accessible via a browser so all my feeds were synced regardless of where I accessed it. The Old Reader was one of them and for all it's hype, I never found it delivered what it promised, but they may be down to the server groaning under the huge traffic upswing too. Inoreader is probably the closest to my needs, but TT-RSS still blows everything out of the water.

The one niggle I had to get used to was the email thing in Google Reader. It worked so well due to being integrated with Gmail, so no one can replicate it, but once I started using a workaround, it just pointed out that even Google bollocksed that feature up. I was initially annoyed at the broken feed warning, but quickly grew to appreciate it. My annoyance was due to the huge amount of cruft it displayed when I finally imported all of my feeds. This is info that Google Reader should have been telling me about but didn't.

So far every problem I've hit I've found an answer to in the forums. Some were genuine problems, some just domestic blindness on my behalf because I was looking for something in the wrong spot. Anything that I need the reader to do either works out of the box or there's a plugin available.

It would be great if updating the plugins could be done from the admin screen at some point in the future, but I can live with the minor inconvenience of hunting down new versions and reinstalling them on upgrade. Most of the frustration here is more of an issue on my part over trying to remember which plugins were installed to test but turned off and which were in use. It's a nicety, but not essential and the manual path does force me to clean out crap I don't need.

TT-RSS isn't the answer for everyone. You need enough technical knowledge to be dangerous, but even that doesn't seem enough of a filter to weed out the stupid forum questions. I found it to be a huge step ahead of any alternative reader applications. As it stands now, I love the way TT-RSS works, I love the way it looks and it's getting even better. Thanks for all your hard work. It is appreciated.

What I find interesting about the non-closure of The Old Reader is that whoever has purchased the service wants to prove (yet again) that RSS is not dead. Someone (yet again) has bet her money on future demand for feed readers. Fine.
