His name is not what he should be ashamed of.

when you send something to someone, that message becomes their property, to do with what they will, if you don't want your name posted, then it best not be in the insulting, stupid, jeerworthy message that you send them.

the dick move was going to the trouble of 'donating' .01€ and then writing a diatribe about it.

showing that dick move to the world... just what the dick deserves.

Hey look, fox unlocked the thread, so I didn't have to forum crap to respond. I'm not worried about my name - there's basically only one of us here on the interwebs using that particular username, so it's easy enough to find me if you want. At the end of the day, it says more about you than me that you care so much.

Indeed, I fully expected Dolgov to post it. And that's why I responded via Paypal when fox locked the thread. Bottom line: there was an okay way to respond, and a dick way to respond. As I said in my message he could have said, "Your build's unsupported, go ask someone in Ubuntu forums" and I would have said, "Thanks, sorry to bother" and completed the donation and gone away to the Ubuntu forums to sort it Instead, he said,

fox wrote:what if you stopped just doing random shit and read the instructions

e: also you are using packaged ttrss, read the rules or gtfo

The first line was all that was there while I was navigating Paypal in Russian to make a donation, and then he added that second line which actually told me the problem. And yeah, I'd have settled for "what if you stopped just doing random shit and installed the build from here, otherwise don't come here for help" or a dozen other variations - little less rude, much more helpful.

Same thing with Remi, Hans Reiser and other self-proclaimed gods of open-source - too much dick. So yeah, you can asskiss and defend fox, or you can admit there's a problem - and it's solvable by less dickishness and more helpfulness. What, did I just blow your mind by suggesting there's a less cynical way out there?

you know what, you're absolutely right, there *is* a problem, and it's pervasive throughout the world these days...

the problem is fucking lazy entitled people who whine, and *demand* that the answers to everything be handed to them on a fucking silver platter, instead of thinking on their own, and politely, and with a flourish, and lots of "oh, yessa massa, and nossa massa" and bowing and scraping.

and when they don't get it, they raise a stink.

there is a problem... it's staring back at you every time you look in the mirror.

is fox a nice guy? maybe... maybe not, he created something and gave it to the world to use for free. does he want to spend all his spare time answering the same question over and over? nope, does he want to spend his spare time figuring out what the fuck you've done to your bastardized all to hell version of ttrss? (the file you had so much trouble with, database.php, doesn't even exist in a stock copy of ttrss...) no, should he? I don't think so.

yet you come in here demanding that he kowtow to your whims because he ain't doin things the way you want...

yup... in the mirror.

Reading the op and the rules before posting is for chumps. Better post rants on the internet about me not caring how other people are being meanie poopy-heads to me.

You're absolutely right - I made a mistake in assuming I should be able to get help on the Ubuntu packaged version and for that I'm actually, genuinely, sorry. My previous experience on Ubuntu's packaging suggested that they didn't make very many changes, and it so appears that there was a change here and I didn't realize it. Seriously, sorry man. But I didn't post a rant on the internet; you did so publicly in an attempt to humiliate me.

I've not seen this before, but I do love it. Bookmarked, thank you. However, section 3 applies to the argument, not doxxing, and frankly it really was kinda predictable that you'd post it - the couple of interactions I had with you strongly suggested it was so.

Wow, you really are as stupidly asinine as you've seemed this entire time. I thought I'd give you the benefit of doubt, but apparently it was misplaced, so here's a point by point rebuttal to you:

1. "fucking lazy entitled people who whine, and *demand* that the answers to everything be handed to them on a fucking silver platter, instead of thinking on their own" - Here's a lazy version of my initial post: "Hey man teh google reader plugin don't work what do" and then repeated "c'mon man, why you no help" replies. Go back and read my first post - I was trying to figure out if I had broken something and figured the developer might know what was broken underneath, not realizing that Ubuntu's maintainers had broken something. And if you seriously think I didn't try to work it out without help, go back and see the back-and-forth with JustAMacUser to try and figure out if it was a PHP configuration issue or something else.

2. "lots of "oh, yessa massa, and nossa massa" and bowing and scraping" - I've no idea what you're trying to say but on the off-chance you're making a plea to be polite, I agree.

3. "and when they don't get it, they raise a stink" - I privately complained to fox since he locked the thread, and he then posted it. Not my doing. A rant would be my going to Medium and pissing on open source software developers using fox as an example.

4. "is fox a nice guy? maybe... maybe not, he created something and gave it to the world to use for free. does he want to spend all his spare time answering the same question over and over? nope, does he want to spend his spare time figuring out what the fuck you've done to your bastardized all to hell version of ttrss? (the file you had so much trouble with, database.php, doesn't even exist in a stock copy of ttrss...) no, should he? I don't think so." - all great points and I owe much^H^H^H^H all of the several years of my TT-RSS use to his kind work. That said, are you seriously arguing with me on being slightly polite? Seriously? Because if so, you're part of the problem.

5. "yet you come in here demanding that he kowtow to your whims because he ain't doin things the way you want..." Really? I walked away from the forum thread, deleted the stuff (which fox then restored), and then you and he started mocking me and then he locked the thread. I didn't ask him to kowtow to anything; I privately suggested that he may want to just be a little direct in his response. That's it - I'm not sitting with a gun to his head asking him to say please or thank you.

Y'know what, I'll take the advice from section 5 and inform you that I will be partaking in some sort of basic social function, like civility.

fox - thank you for your work on TT-RSS, thank you for helping with the starred items file and I'll do my part to try and complain to Ubuntu's package maintainer about his/her bastardizing of your code. And one of these days, when I have had a couple of days to calm down and think it over, I suspect I will send you a more substantial and well-deserved donation as well as a genuine apology for not noticing your forum rules prohibited discussion of packaged TT-RSS.

sleeper_service - I sincerely hope you get the help you need to calm down and grow up. Fox seems at least bemused and entertained by this; you're taking it more seriously than either of us.
