Actually, anyone asking for help when hosted on a shared server is asking for a lot. According to the FAQ (http://tt-rss.org/redmine/projects/tt-r ... dQuestions):

Technical questions related to tt-rss
I'm on a shared hosting, and...

Too bad. Contact your hosting support. Running tt-rss on shared hosting of any kind is NOT SUPPORTED. Do not file bugs about shared hosting restrictions, they will be closed.

Now, I could be wrong, but I think that states very clearly that shared hosting is not supported. In that case, asking for support when using shared hosting just seems very rude and wrong.

How does one disable the --daemon set flag?

then you'd know that one disables the --daemon flag by not specifying it on the command line, and you wouldn't ask questions like that in public.

The daemon is not running, therefor the is no daemon to not turn off. The problem, since you apparently have the same combination of rudeness and reading comprehension issues as Fox, is that the RSS reader UI is looking for an update daemon that is not running.

The documentation for how to update the feeds says that not all users can use the daemon method and that they can use cron instead, which I am doing. But in doing so, I am getting a specific undocumented error and instead of helping, you and the developer are doing nothing but heaping abuse on those with this error.

So either help or shut the fuck up.

And if that gets me banned, then so be it. In the short time I've been here, I am oh so not impressed by the level of integrity of this "community".

13 years of telling people how to hit the power button, eh?

try going back and reading what you posted, you asked how to turn off the --daemon flag on a script, there's no way to 'turn off a flag' other than not using it, if you put --daemon on the command line, it forks into the background and runs, if you don't put it on there, then, surprise, it *doesn't* fork into the background.

The best part about your impotent rage is that the question you are struggling with is in the FAQ.

Nah, why ban comedy generating users. Post more.

Searching the FAQ for "update daemon is not running" or any variant turns up nothing relevant. That is the error I get, that is the situation I want to fix. The reader works, updating is done via cron. I just want to get rid of the error message.

I want to learn but I CANNOT FIND THE ANSWER. You say it's in the FAQ, can you at least point me to a search or category that will enable it to be found?

The whole document is almost two pages of text which makes it basically impossible to read completely without bursting into tears because of all the effort involved. I never asked for this, poster gordol cries. I only wanted to find the answer! Q_Q

Which document? This one: http://tt-rss.org/redmine/projects/tt-rss/wiki/UpdatingFeeds ? That document only provides instructions on how to update the feeds. The feeds are updating fine, that is not the problem. There is nothing on there about this error.

So either provide help or shut the fuck up.

I'm sorry I just have to ask: are you developmentally disabled? I wouldn't want to mock someone who has a legitimate mental disorder.

I imagine you stomped your little foot when you wrote that. It's adorable.

Hi,

I think what you are looking for is :http://tt-rss.org/redmine/projects/tt-rss/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions
and particularly :
I have used the update daemon before, but switched away from it. However, the UI keeps nagging me about the daemon not running.

Find and delete the daemon lockfile in LOCK_DIRECTORY. Usually, it's lock/update_daemon.lock

Regards.

Xuo.

Ok let me be the killjoy, as this feed becomes quite crowded and I am running the danger of accidentally skipping important messages from fox.

You have more than one possibility to solve your problem. The easy way is to read the FAQ, as fox advised:

I have used the update daemon before, but switched away from it. However, the UI keeps nagging me about the daemon not running.

If you did not find the FAQ, no matter the reason why, you could use the fact, that makes open source great. Just grep for the error message and you get the source of the error.

gordol wrote:So either provide help or shut the fuck up.

Please refrain from swearing, it only makes your problem worse and makes you look not in the best light...
