How to migrate from MySQL to PostgreSQL?

Postby kulak » 12 Dec 2016, 23:42

I am running 16.1 on FreeBSD 10.2 with MySQL backend.

I am getting ready to migrate the system to Raspberry Pi host with Postgre database installed. I assume I will update to the latest TTRSS.

I prefer not to loose my feeds and especially starred articles.

Is there a database migration process you can recommend for me?

Thank you

While i've never felt the need to move from MySQL, Postgres' docs have a decent page on migration. Additionally I've had good luck using Symmetric-DS going from Oracle DB to MariaDB. I believe it supports PostgreSQL so you may want to give it a look.

Fox is not going to appreciate that you didn't bother to search:

Proper way to migrate from MySQL to PostgreSQL

I'm going to add that migrating is, in general, a bad idea. You should export/import your feeds using the built-in feature for this. There's also a plugin bundled with TT-RSS that will handle this for your starred articles.

PostgreSQL's name

Hint: There is no such thing as "Postgre" -- I'm only letting you know so you don't sound like an idiot when you call it "Postgre" to your friends, let alone your employer.

I decided against using migration tool https://github.com/hrk/tt-rss-mysql2pgs ... its/master and import/export plug-in reference is dead
https://github.com/lotrfan/Tiny-Tiny-RS ... export_all

Correct or not: Java to install on a system, for some reason I thought the migration project was last updated several years ago, so I was not sure it was up to date. Risk of having problems that cost me additional time in the end and doubting if migration created problems or if it has always been there.

Yes, you need Java installed on your system.

The migration project hasn't been updated in years because there has been no need (as the database schema didn't change in a way that required changes to the tool).

I didn't test it for a ttrss migration but used it for a Drupal MySQL to PostgreSQL migration but you may try pgloader (http://pgloader.io/).
